Best Mac Website Design Programs
Although WordPress is by far the leading platform for website development, there's a handful of native OSX web design apps worth noting.
RapidWeaver - Affordable Website Design For Mac OSX
This Mac SEO Tools site was done using RealMac Software's RapidWeaver For Mac - an affordable Mac web design application that's free to try - and deploy up to a free 3-page website. A dozen and a half bundled Themes, plus a HUGE market of third-party and responsive Themes and Plug-In support for Rapidweaver make it an excellent OSX webdev software choice to build an online empire with.
A good selection of page types in RapidWeaver allows even the trial version of this affordable Mac web design software to build a rather well rounded site with either HTML or Styled text pages, Photo gallery or Movie pages. The built in Blog page type is downright elegant. It's very easy to update and add posts to once configured and the RSS Feed settings, Ping sites, Blog Categories and Tags are set up properly.
Sandvox Site Builder For MacOS
A free trial version of Karelia Software's Sandvox is available for OSX website owners to try out and prototype a 1-page website with. This popular web design program for the Mac may not enjoy quite the extensive 3rd-party plug-in and theme support RapidWeaver does, but it is a very, very good Apple compatible web authoring program, with very slick and appealing themes and templates bundled in. For MMO Money Sites, it's Amazon pagelet integration makes adding products and monetizing a site a bit easier. Overall, Sandvox is a bit 'Lite-er' but very elegant website design app compared to Rapid-Weaver at a slightly lower cost - and delivers a good looking, fully optimized site creation with ease.
Rage Software's EverWeb For OSX
A recent entry into site creation on Mac OSX is EverWeb from Rage. Nice interface and very approachable for 1st time web masters. However, while it may be fine for simple business or personal sites, many features some would consider essential to ANY Mac website design app are either available as extra Plug-In Packs, or not available at all. A handful of themes are included but that's about it. For it's price, it's not terribly sophisticated and really shoud retail for more like $19.
Sparkle App For MacRiver SRL's Sparkle is a very modern responsive Mac website development app that's downright elegant. Now at version 2.0 Sparkle is solid but not weighed-down by years of added features to make it unecessarily complicated. If I had a do-over, I'd probably start with Sparkle. RapidWeaver has become complex, expensive to keep updating. Sometimes Less-Is-More and Sparkle website builder might be a good choice for many Mac users and small businesses.
FreeWay Website Builder For Mac
Another affordable option for building Mac websites quick is Freeway Express for Mac OSX. Really focusing on drag and drop simplicity without having to be a deep CSS or HTML code geek, it's a great option for Macintosh owner's who are more accustomed to modern page-layout programs. They're now moving towards more Responsive site features for improved rendering on mobile devices. There is a comparison chart at SoftPress of web authoring features of FreeWay Pro and Express versions.
Pro Mac Site Authoring - DreamweaverNeed to pull out the Big Guns? Adobe Dreamweaver For Mac is the Professional's website creation tool of choice for good reason. Any good Mac Internet Marketer will earn enough from thier site(s) to cover the investment in this Pro web authoring program. Available as a digital monthly subscription, Adobe has moved to a Cloud-Based application model, so buying expensive, retail-boxed standalone apps on CD/DVD is no longer required.
WordPressYou don't necessarily need to run web authoring software on your Mac is you so choose. Many site creation apps live up in 'the cloud' on top hosting companies like: GoDaddy Hosting, HostGator.com, and iPage.com - Any Mac running any OSX web browser can access these site building tools.
Literally millions of websites are built using site authoring applications that reside on your web host. Most notably the ubiquitious WordPress and it's appealing plethora of Plug-ins, add-ons, SEO optimizing modules and a wealth of online support and global community of users.
If WordPress has an achille's heel, it's it's use of SQL to roll ALL of your sites content and posts into a big database that MUST get backed up properly. Very, very different than simply backing up a folder of your site HTML stored locally on your Mac's hard drive.
Also note to work in WordPress, you MUST have a live internet connection at all times just to log-in and get to work. With standalone MacOS web development apps, you can work offline anytime then just upload when you do have an online connection.
Wordpress is just the tip of the iceberg. Hosting companies usually offer 1-Click installs of not only WordPress, but Joomla, Drupal, Concrete and many other web page creation apps, content management systems and web site builders. A Macintosh webmaster's toolbox needs Mac website creation - authoring - design software that lets you rapidly prototye and deploy a web site on OSX.
